Genk addresses racial abuse against Tolu Arokodare after Club Brugge match

Genk, a Belgian Jupiler League club, responds to racial abuse targeted at Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare following their defeat to Club Brugge on Sunday. In the Cegeka Arena match, Arokodare, 23, had an early opportunity to give Genk the lead with a penalty kick but unfortunately missed.

In the end, the visitors secured victory with three goals after the full 90 minutes.

Post-game, a faction of displeased Genk fans expressed their frustration on social media, directing threats and racist slurs at Arokodare.

In response to the incident, Genk released a statement, pledging to take action against the offenders and involve law enforcement.

“Following the Club Brugge match, Tolu received racist reactions on social media,” stated Genk's release.

“KRC Genk and all affiliated with the club unequivocally denounce these reactions. Racism has no place, whether in football stadiums, on social media, or anywhere else.

“Regrettably, racism remains entrenched in football and, by extension, in society. Putting an end to this requires collective effort. As a club, we are committed to identifying and reporting those responsible to the police.”
