Felix Sanchez appointed Ecuador coach

The former Qatar coach, Spaniard Felix Sanchez, will take over the Ecuador team, the national football federation announced on Saturday.

"Good luck and success, Professor!" wrote the FEF on Twitter.

Sanchez, 47, takes over for the 60-year-old Argentine Gustavo Alfaro, who stepped down after Ecuador was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar.

The Tricolor finished third in Group A with just one win, a 2-0 victory over Qatar, who were then coached by Sanchez.

Sanchez began coaching in the Barcelona youth academy when he was 21 years old. In 2006, he moved to Qatar to coach national age group teams before taking over the national team in 2017.

His first games in charge of Ecuador will be two friendlies against Australia on March 24 and 28 in Sydney and Melbourne.
