EPL: Keown Reveals the Manager Who Cost Arsenal the Title by Taking Six Points from Them

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has revealed that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery cost Mikel Arteta’s side the Premier League title this season.

Keown asserted that Emery, a former Arsenal manager, was "desperate" to defeat his former club, and highlighted that he took six points from the Gunners.

To recap, Arsenal narrowly missed out on securing their first Premier League trophy since 2004 on the final day of the season, as Manchester City defeated West Ham United 3-1 to finish two points clear at the top of the table.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Arsenal lost both home and away matches against Aston Villa, with scores of 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

“They [Man City] have that luxury, Arsenal are a developing club,” Keown said. “You go into a fight with Man City, if Arsenal manage a draw and they don’t lose to Villa, they can be champions. So they went there to pick up those necessary points because they knew if they got beat it would just wipe Arsenal out and City would do it again.

“I think the reason Arsenal didn’t win the league was because of Unai Emery – he took six points off of Arsenal.”
