Atletico shortlist Ndidi for summer move

As reported by CaughtOffside, Nigerian and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been included in Atletico Madrid's shortlist for a new defensive midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

After neglecting to resolve the position last summer, the Rojiblancos have initiated the search for a player to occupy the vacancy in their squad, with the Nigerian emerging as a viable acquisition.

The impending conclusion of club captain Koke Resurreccion's career, along with the anticipated exit of Thomas Lemar, necessitates the acquisition of a pivot at the Metropolitano prior to the commencement of the 2025/26 season.

Atleti's sporting department has been compiling a shortlist in recent months, which includes Mallorca's Samu Costa. Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi has been added, as reported by CaughtOffside.



Ndidi was associated with Barcelona last summer before choosing to extend his contract with Leicester. He is anticipated to depart the Premier League club in 2025, with Atleti competing for his signature.


Atleti is not the sole club interested in Ndidi; the report indicates that Real Betis is also pursuing the Nigerian international. Los Verdiblancos are anticipated to transfer Johnny Cardoso to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer, and the pursuit of a replacement seems to be in progress.

AS Monaco is reportedly contending with Atleti and Betis, having had a £20 million bid rejected during the winter transfer window.


The 28-year-old's existing contract with Leicester binds him to the club until 2027.

Ndidi has participated in 208 matches in the English Premier League for Leicester and was a member of the team that secured the FA Cup in the 2020/21 season, marking the first victory in the club's history, followed by the FA Community Shield.

He played a crucial role in their Championship-winning season in 2023/24, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 32 appearances.
