Antonio Conte named new Napoli coach

Antonio Conte, the former manager of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, has been appointed as Napoli's new manager on a three-year contract. The 54-year-old has not managed a team since leaving Tottenham Hotspur by mutual consent in March 2023, after 16 months in charge. Despite a disastrous spell in North London, Conte has had a successful coaching career, having won the Premier League in his first season at Chelsea (2016-17) and the FA Cup in his second before being fired in 2018. The announcement came in a Wednesday statement headed "Antonio Conte Named New Napoli Coach," which was retrieved from the club's website.

SSC Napoli is thrilled to welcome Antonio Conte to the club as first-team coach, with the Italian signing a deal until June 30, 2027. "I'm overjoyed that Antonio Conte is Napoli's new coach," said club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. "Antonio is a fantastic coach and a leader, so I'm confident that we'll be able to restore the foundations as needed following the completion of the cycle that brought us to Scudetto success last year after many years at the top of Italian football. A crucial new chapter in Napoli's history begins today."

"Napoli is an extremely important club on the international stage," Conte revealed. "I'm thrilled and excited about the prospect of taking my seat in the Napoli dugout. I can promise one thing: I will do all in my power to help the team and the club succeed. "I'm fully committed to the task at hand, as are my employees," the Italian added. Conte, who led Inter Milan to their first Serie A title in 11 years in 2021, went on to say, "I can certainly promise one thing: I will do everything I can to help the team and the club grow." My commitment, together with that of my staff, will be complete.

He also led a dominating Juventus to three consecutive Serie A titles between 2011 and 2014. Napoli, who won Serie A for the first time in 33 years last year, struggled to reproduce their success, finishing ninth in the league. Their terrible form prompted Slovakia manager Francesco Calzona to join the club in February on a short-term contract until the end of the season, after manager Walter Mazzarri was fired after only three months.
