Anthony Joshua is set to take on the victor of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk matchup
Mauricio Sulaiman, the President of the World Boxing Council, has expressed the organization's willingness to "approve" Anthony Joshua's pursuit of facing the winner between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship. The highly anticipated clash between Fury and Usyk is scheduled for May 18 in Saudi Arabia, where all the belts are at stake. Additionally, a rematch between the two fighters is anticipated later in the year.
Joshua is poised to face the victor following his remarkable second-round knockout triumph over former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou last weekend.
Mauricio Sulaiman informed Sky Sports, "The WBC received a sanction request for the undisputed fight, which we accepted, along with the requested rematch. However, if it doesn't involve contractual or promotional constraints, we are fully open to endorsing the winner facing Joshua."
He added, "The WBC's current stance is highly supportive of the undisputed champion engaging in the bouts that fans eagerly desire."
