Albrighton, Iheanacho exit Leicester, Ndidi’s fate unknown

Marc Albrighton, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Dennis Praet are among the players leaving Leicester City this summer.

The three senior players will leave the King Power Stadium at the end of their contracts in June.

Albrighton, a club legend, played 313 games throughout all competitions and won the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, FA Community Shield, and Sky Bet Championship.

Nigerian international Iheanacho completed his seven-year spell with 61 goals, including the winner against Manchester City in the 2021 FA Community Shield final. Praet, who signed from Sampdoria in August 2019, has made 107 appearances and scored five goals.

Meanwhile, the club is still in talks with midfielder Wilfred Ndidi about his future beyond the expiration of his current deal this month.

Leicester City appreciates all three departed players for their efforts and wishes them well in their future ventures.


Our correspondent acquired a statement from the club on Friday, which revealed this.

"Among those departing is Leicester City veteran Marc Albrighton, who played 313 games in all competitions and won the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, FA Community Shield, and Sky Bet Championship. The winger, who also scored City's first UEFA Champions League goal against Club Brugge in September 2016, will be remembered as one of the most successful and popular players in the club's history.

"Marc's talent, hard effort, and dedication over the last decade since arriving at King Power Stadium on a free transfer have earned him the admiration of the Blue Army, and he will be regarded as having played an important role in the Club's greatest-ever era.

"Kelechi Iheanacho is also leaving Filbert Way, ending his seven-year stay in the East Midlands." Since signing from Manchester City in August 2017, the popular forward has scored 61 goals for Leicester, including the winner against his former team in the The FA Community Shield final will take place at Wembley Stadium in August 2021.

"Belgian midfielder Dennis Praet also departs this summer, having moved to King Power Stadium from Sampdoria in August 2019 and made 107 appearances in total, scoring on five occasions," it stated.

According to the statement, discussions are ongoing to determine Ndidi's fate.


"The Club is still in talks with midfielder Wilfred Ndidi about his future beyond the end of his current contract this month.

"The Club extends its thanks to all three departing players for their contributions during their time with Leicester City and wishes them every success in the next stages of their respective careers," stated the statement.

Nigerianwatch maintains that the Nigerian duo are in the Super Eagles camp when they face South Africa tonight (Friday) at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (formerly Akwa Ibom International Stadium) in Uyo in the World Cup Qualifier.
