Banky W Applauds Election Tribunal's Decision for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Rerun
Bankole Wellington, the singer and politician popularly known as Banky W, has expressed his approval of the Election Petitions Tribunal's decision to order a rerun in the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
The tribunal, located in Ikeja, Lagos State, had invalidated the victory of Thaddeus Attah, a Labour Party (LP) lawmaker, as the representative of the Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.
As previously reported by Naija News, the court's ruling on Monday, September 11, mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election in the 32 polling units of Eti-Osa within 90 days. INEC was also directed to revoke the return certificate issued to Attah and organize elections in areas where voting did not take place on February 25.
During an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today, Banky W described the ruling as a second chance and a miracle. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, faith, and the collective will of the people in the democratic process. Banky W stressed the significance of allowing citizens to exercise their constitutional right to participate in elections without hindrance.
The singer highlighted the presence of over 30 polling units with nearly 30,000 voters who were eager to cast their ballots but were prevented from doing so. He cited instances of violence and voter suppression in some areas, as well as instances where INEC officers failed to show up at polling stations.
Banky W also recounted his involvement in protests at the collation center following the February 25 election, where he joined hundreds, if not thousands, of protesters.
He expressed gratitude for the court's decision to ensure that every vote is counted and every voice is heard, regardless of the candidate being supported.
