Woman working in banking sector found dead in apparent suicide in Lagos

Amarachi Ugochukwu, a 32-year-old female marketing employee at a bank in Ikorodu, Lagos State, tragically took her own life by consuming an insecticide within the bank premises on Monday. The incident occurred around 1 pm, as Ugochukwu discreetly entered the restroom to carry out the act, unbeknownst to her colleagues.

Concerned colleagues initiated a search for Amarachi Ugochukwu when her unattended phone on the table continuously rang without her responding. Subsequently, a police source verified to our correspondent that Ugochukwu was discovered lifeless in the restroom, holding a bottle of insecticide along with her suicide note.

The suicide note, shared with our correspondent, revealed that Ugochukwu attributed her decision to the harsh economic conditions, expressing that nothing seemed to be going well for her.

“Nothing is working in my life. My figures are low. My brain is clogged up. The economy is getting harder. My decisions are wrong. My mind is messed up. The future doesn’t seem bright at all. I see extreme hardship. I can’t bear the pain anymore,” she wrote in the suicide note.

In her suicide note, Ugochukwu extended apologies to her parents and other family members, stating, "I'm sorry Mum, I'm sorry Dad, I'm sorry Nene, Okwe, Toto, Nazor, Chuchu, Ifunanya." She concluded with a plea, "Dear Lord, have mercy on me!"

The bank manager promptly reported the incident to the police, informing them that Ugochukwu had locked herself in the restroom to carry out the tragic act. Authorities found her lifeless when the door was forcibly opened. A medical doctor subsequently examined Ugochukwu, confirming her demise.

"The police took custody of the body and placed it at Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy," the source mentioned. "The incident is currently under investigation by the Lagos State Police."

Despite attempts to reach him, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, did not respond to multiple calls or a text message.
