Tragedy in Taraba: 12-year-old boy accidentally shoots and kills younger brother in Jalingo
Tragedy struck in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, when a 12-year-old boy, identified as David Kingsley, reportedly shot and killed his 6-year-old brother, Solomon Kingsley.
The fatal incident took place on Tuesday evening at their family compound in the Nukkai area of Jalingo.
The father of the children declined to comment on the tragic event, citing his grief over the loss of his son.
When approached, Kwache Gambo, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer of the Taraba Command, requested patience from our correspondent, as the Command has yet to release a statement about the incident at the time of reporting.
Local residents said they were alarmed and hid after hearing the gunshot, fearing it might be bandits or kidnappers. They confirmed that the 12-year-old, David, had mistakenly shot and killed his 6-year-old brother, Solomon, but they could not ascertain the origin of the firearm, as the boys' father was not a security personnel.
This tragic incident follows another recent accident in Didango Geita village, Karim-Lamido local government area, where three children died after an accidental discharge from a dane gun they were allegedly playing with.
