Tinubu appoints Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as new accountant-general

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Federation's new Accountant-General, effective March 7, 2025.

His appointment comes after a rigorous selection process, and he will succeed Oluwatoyin Madehin, who is set to retire.

Bayo Onanuga, the president's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed this in a statement released on Tuesday.

Onanuga stated that Ogunjimi's appointment will take effect on March 7, the same day the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation after a rigorous selection process," according to the press release.

"His appointment, approved today, will take effect on March 7, 2025, the same day that the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin, will retire.

"Ogunjimi, 57, was first named as Madehin's successor last December," according to the statement.

According to the statement, he was chosen by a selection committee comprised of Federal Civil Service Directors of Accounts following a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process.

The process consisted of three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.

The selection process demonstrates President Tinubu's dedication to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public-sector positions.

Ogunjimi received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990, and a Master of Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to serve Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
