During a courtesy visit to Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Nasir Kwarra, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), expressed his gratitude to the military for their dedicated service to the nation. He acknowledged the military's role in defending Nigeria's territorial integrity and maintaining peace.
Kwarra also highlighted the military's support in the NPC's preparations for the upcoming census. He explained that the census, initially scheduled for April, was postponed due to the change in administration. However, President Buhari has reaffirmed the commitment to conduct the census. Kwarra sought the military's assistance in providing security coverage for NPC staff at the state and local government levels, as well as access to military barracks across the country.
In response, Gen. Musa assured Kwarra that the military was fully prepared to support the NPC in ensuring the successful conduct of a credible census. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive census for guiding development processes and fostering national growth. Gen. Musa also underscored the military's keen interest in the security aspect of the census and mentioned their well-established logistics system, which would be instrumental in achieving a successful census.
