Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Defence, has emphasized the Federal Government's unwavering focus on investments in key areas including the blue economy, unmanned spaces, climate change, and the modernization of military equipment.

Delivering this insight during the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference 2023, themed "Crafting a Strategic Blueprint for Security and Prosperity," which took place on August 30, 2023, at Abuja's MKO Abiola Stadium, Badaru presented a goodwill message.

Represented by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Badaru pointed out that the Nigerian Government, via the Ministry of Defence, has committed substantial resources to equip and bolster capabilities against piracy. Notably, he highlighted that the International Maritime Bureau's records indicate a decrease in Nigeria's incidents in the Gulf of Guinea to fewer than two to five cases.

He emphasized, "The Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria bear the responsibility of upholding peace and stability, extending beyond just the black water and brown water zones to the depths of the blue water."

"Increasingly, the Government is intensifying its endeavors by introducing additional platforms such as the 'falcon eye' and the deep blue project, reflecting substantial investments aimed at addressing insecurity not only in the Niger Delta but throughout Nigeria's coastal regions."

Furthermore, Badaru commended the Nigerian Navy for its proactive stance in tackling piracy—a problem that has severely impacted the nation's economy, particularly within the maritime sector.

Expanding on his points, he underscored the influential role of unmanned spaces in both national security and the economy. He advocated for Nigeria's investment in unmanned spaces through agricultural means as a strategy to mitigate internal insecurity.

Addressing the topic of Defense and innovation, the Minister highlighted that Nigeria's National Defense policy is centered around the modernization of its Armed Forces. He emphasized the nation's efforts in establishing a local Military Industrial Complex, an initiative aimed at fostering innovation, generating employment opportunities, and tackling insecurity.

He confidently stated, "By deploying state-of-the-art military equipment, we are taking significant strides toward bidding farewell to insecurity in Nigeria."

Present at the event were Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, as well as high-ranking officials including Rear Admiral M.K Onubebe representing the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. O.J Akpor representing the Chief of Army Staff, Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba representing the Inspector General of Police, Justice Lawan H. Gummi, the Emir of Gumi, and Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun), along with other distinguished dignitaries.
