Students who were kidnapped from Taraba State University have been released
Two students from the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, who were abducted two weeks ago, have been freed. Mrs. Ashu Agbu, the Head of the Information and Protocol Unit of the institution, confirmed the news, stating that the students regained their freedom after spending days in captivity. However, she did not provide further details regarding the circumstances of their release.
However, the previous week, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N50 million. The two students were abducted on Wednesday, April 3, around 10:00 PM at a shop near the school.
The students, Joshua Sardauna from the Economics Department and Obianu Elizabeth from the Microbiology Department, returned to the school to retake their examinations due to the carry-over they had from the previous session when the incident occurred.
On Monday, April 3, 2024, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen invaded the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State and abducted two students.
Mr. Sule Gani, the Chief Security Officer of the university, confirmed the incident.
Gani explained that a male and a female ex-students of the university, who came to write their carry-over papers, were abducted by the gunmen, whom he described as armed Fulani herdsmen.
He recounted that the herdsmen stormed the school and seized the two students while they were eating at a food vendor shop on campus.
