Spotify to update iOS App in EU with new prices
Spotify will update its app for Apple devices in the European Union on Wednesday to include pricing information for its various plans and services. This move comes more than three months after Apple initially denied Spotify's request due to noncompliance with the Music Streaming Services Entitlement.
The update will allow Spotify to display pricing information directly in its iOS app. However, Spotify has chosen not to include an external link for purchases in order to avoid the commission fees charged by Apple on transactions conducted outside of its ecosystem.
Responding, Spotify said: "While this update is a step forward, it represents only a small part of the broader effort to meet the expectations of iPhone users for basic app functionalities."
Apple's new terms, announced earlier this year, were intended to facilitate communication about alternative payment methods for music streaming apps in the European Economic Area.
This change came after Brussels imposed a substantial fine of 1.84 billion euros ($2 billion) in March for restricting competition through App Store practices.
Spotify's adherence to these terms is a significant development in the ongoing conversation between the tech titans about app store regulations and payment practices.
