Snap unveils new lens studio tools for AR creators
Snap Inc. is broadening its support for creators in augmented reality with new tools in Lens Studio, focusing on improving the development of games powered by Bitmoji.
The updates released in Lens Studio 5.10 feature a collection of game assets and functionalities that allow developers to create more engaging and interactive experiences, according to TechCrunch.
One of the major enhancements is a turn-based gameplay system that facilitates players to take turns and respond to challenges within the same game session. A newly introduced customizable Character Controller accommodates various gameplay perspectives, such as third-person, first-person, side-scrolling, and top-down views.
Snap has also enhanced its leaderboard function, providing new templates for starting and ending screens, a combined display of friends’ and global scores, as well as additional metrics like “friends who have played.”
In addition to these updates, Snap is launching a Bitmoji Suite aimed at enabling creators to personalize and animate Bitmoji characters. Developers now have the capability to design custom outfits, create unique props, and animate characters using Snap’s built-in library.
The company is also unveiling a new series of Bitmoji Game Lenses, including Bitmoji Bistro, Bitmoji Buckets, and Beatmoji Blast. These single-player and turn-based games will allow users to directly challenge their friends through Snapchat, marking a first for the platform's Bitmoji experiences.
“Lens Studio empowers our dynamic community of over 375,000 AR creators, developers, and teams to effortlessly create and publish Lenses, so we are thrilled to provide them with even more resources for creation,” Snap stated.
Coinciding with the launch, Snap has initiated the Bitmojiverse Challenge, presenting developers with an opportunity to win cash prizes for incorporating the new Bitmoji Suite and game assets into their AR creations.
This initiative highlights Snap’s ongoing commitment to innovate in AR and gaming as the company aims to grow its creator ecosystem and enhance user engagement on Snapchat.
