Seplat Energy targets 14tn cubic feet of gas in Akwa Ibom
Roger Brown, CEO of Seplat Energy, has emphasized the company's ability to tap into an estimated 14 trillion cubic feet of untapped natural gas in its newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom state.Brown made this statement during his presentation at the Heirs Energies Leadership Forum 2025 in Abuja, where he discussed Nigeria's opportunities to increase oil and gas production, unlock additional gas reserves, and foster long-term growth in the energy sector.
He reiterated Seplat Energy's commitment to strengthening Nigeria's energy sector by increasing oil production and domestic gas supply capacity.
"We see tremendous potential in unlocking 14 TCF of untapped gas in our newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom State and we are aligned with the government's vision that every barrel of oil and molecule of gas counts," he told reporters.
He stated that Seplat Energy intends to provide 850 million standard cubic feet of gas for domestic and industrial use in Nigeria.
"Seplat Energy is committed to delivering Nigeria's energy future by increasing oil production and delivering on our 850 million scf gas capacity to domestic industry, which includes power, fertilizer production, and LNG.
"We share the government's vision that every barrel of oil and molecule of gas counts. As a result, we will continue to invest in safe and efficient operations to ensure long-term energy security and sustainable growth," the CEO stated.
Brown emphasized that Nigeria's energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation, including unprecedented divestments.
He stated that these new investments and divestments will provide new opportunities for growth in the sector.
Last year, Seplat Energy, which is listed in both Nigeria and London, paid $1.3 billion to ExxonMobil for Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited.
The acquisition includes oil and gas operations in multiple oil fields and export terminals in Akwa Ibom State.
