Representatives urge the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to reinstate electricity supply in Ye

The House of Representatives has urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria to promptly restore electricity in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

The decision of the House followed the acceptance of a motion titled "Call to revitalize the power transmission sub-station in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State," presented by Obuku Oforji, the representative of Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State.

During the plenary session on Wednesday, Oforji highlighted that on September 23, 2023, the 132/33KV transmission sub-station serving Yenagoa and its environs was engulfed in flames, resulting in a complete blackout for the area. Since then, the state has struggled to rely on only one feeder to supply electricity to five feeders.

He emphasized that the operational feeder is deteriorating rapidly, warning that "Without immediate action, the feeder is at risk of failing."

Acknowledging the efforts of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in conducting remedial services to prevent the feeder's collapse, the House, under the leadership of Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to intervene promptly "To avert a total breakdown of power distribution and transmission in Yenagoa."

Furthermore, the House tasked the Committee on Power with ensuring compliance with the resolution.
