Police won’t evict deposed Emir, CP replies Kano gov
The Kano State Police Commissioner, AIG Usaini Gumel, has explained why the police ignored Governor Abba Yusuf's directive to evict Aminu Ado Bayero, the ousted Emir of Kano.Recall that Yusuf, through the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, asked the CP on Thursday night to remove the deposed 15 Emir of Kano from the Nasarawa tiny palace where he is currently living.
In a phone interview with The Punch on Friday, the police commissioner stated that executing the governor's eviction order would be "jumping the gun".
According to him, the same administration that issued the order had filed a petition in the State High Court against the eviction order, which will be heard on Monday, June 24, 2024.
"The police will not evict the deposed Emir since the same administration has filed a case in the State High Court on the eviction order, which will be heard on Monday, June 24th, 2024.
"The government is acting prematurely because the same government has filed a case against the eviction order, which is due on June 24th, 2024. So, if we carry out the order, it's as if we're preempting the court since we don't know what will happen there," he explained.
Meanwhile, security has been increased around the Nasarawa small palace, where the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is currently living.
A Punch correspondent who visited the small palace at 11:30 a.m. claims that more security men have been deployed in addition to those already on the ground.
All four major roadways leading to the small palace were blocked by security forces, indicating that the police had failed to remove the ousted Emir as commanded by Governor Yusuf.
However, although the CP had yet to comply with the governor's order, the ousted Emir remained in the small palace with his entourage of palace guards and followers.
One of his (Bayero's) followers, speaking on the condition of anonymity, informed The Punch that Bayero was still in the little palace, receiving "traditional greetings" from certain traditional rulers loyal to him.
"Let me tell you, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is still in the mini palace, and as I speak to you now, he is receiving the "traditional welcomes" from those who support him," the insider stated.
He denied allegations that a bulldozer had been stationed at the palace in preparation for its demolition.
"I've heard rumours that a bulldozer has been stationed at the Nasarawa small castle in preparation for demolition. "This is social media propaganda," the insider said.
