Police arrest suspect in the murder of elderly couple, both 80

The FCT Police Command announced the arrest of a suspect in the killing of Adebola Ezekiel, 80, and his wife, Abiodun Ezekiel, 79. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Benneth Igweh, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

He mentioned that the horrific killing of the couple occurred at their home in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja, on April 1st.

Igwe reported that the police promptly initiated an investigation and successfully apprehended the suspect, a former driver of the deceased couple.

He added that police detectives tracked down the suspect and apprehended him at his hiding place in Obajana, Kogi.

Igwe further stated that the suspect confessed to entering the house on the same day, murdering the victims, and stealing their phones and ATM cards.

The commissioner of police also announced that on April 11, two suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in a homicide case in the Mabushi area of Abuja.

Igweh mentioned that the suspects were apprehended by operatives from Mabushi Division following a tip-off about the discreet transportation of Bilkisu Mohammed's body.

Before her death, the deceased had visited the residence of her presumed boyfriend, who later traveled to Kano, leaving her under the care of the female suspect.

"The deceased reportedly became ill and was administered non-prescription drugs, resulting in her demise by the male suspect, who was invited into the house by the female suspect," he explained.

He mentioned that the suspects were presently in police custody, undergoing questioning.

Igweh reported that on April 6, operatives from the Utako Division of the Command conducted a well-coordinated operation, resulting in the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers.

The CP stated that during interrogation, the suspects openly confessed to being members of an armed robbery gang responsible for a series of robberies and other serious crimes in the FCT.

He added that four locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, three locally fabricated cartridge rifles, one English pistol, and one dane gun were seized from the suspects.

Additionally, other items recovered from the suspects included three live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one live round of 5.56mm ammunition, and an empty cartridge.

Igwe reported that on April 9, police operatives conducting routine crime prevention patrol at Durumi IDP Camp intercepted three suspected armed robbers. They were found in possession of an English-made pistol and a Mazda vehicle registered as RBC 117 EV.

The CP stated that upon the completion of the investigation, all the suspects would face charges in court.
