Oyo blasts driver, vows action after truck damages newly fixed road

The Oyo State Government has criticized the destruction of a piece of the freshly rebuilt Olusoji-WCCI road, only days after it was officially opened to the public.

Busoye Ogunlade, Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital.

A viral video of the wrecked section of the road appeared earlier on Friday.

Ogunlade said he was aware of the event in which a truck carrying over 60 tons of cement wrecked a part after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Ogunlade, who was disappointed that the truck driver fled after the destruction, termed it as a cowardly conduct.

The chairman stated, "The agency received a report on vandalism on the freshly rebuilt road, notably the regrettable occurrence of the demolition of a portion of the Olusoji-WCCI road by a truck driver who is still at large.

"The agency strongly condemns the merciless demolition of the first part of the Olusoji-WCCI road as a premeditated act of sabotage on a critical link road that provides enormous socioeconomic advantages to the state and, indeed, the entire nation.

"The road that was completed last week is one of the state's projects intended to bridge the gap in the road infrastructure yearnings of the people of the area."

He thanked the residents of the area for their concern and assured them that the damaged piece of the road had been repaired almost soon.

Ogunlade added that a technical team was quickly dispatched to check, evaluate, and repair the damaged sections of the road, while the building where the vehicle unloaded the cement was sealed.

The Chairman stated that the agency will now ensure that offenders of such acts face the full wrath of the law.
