Oyebanji hails NADDC for empowering Ekiti technicians
Ekiti State's Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has praised the National Automotive Design and Development Council for equipping technicians in the state, enhancing their potential as contributing members of society and the economy.Oyebanji stated that this initiative “represents a crucial step in our state’s dedication to developing skills, creating wealth, promoting energy efficiency, and ensuring environmental sustainability,” and he promised to keep such training ongoing to foster job creation and economic advancement.
He made these remarks in Ado Ekiti on Saturday during the conclusion of a five-day specialized mechatronics training focused on the repair and maintenance of Compressed Natural Gas and petrol-driven tricycles and motorcycles, organized for technicians in Ekiti State by NADDC in partnership with Simba Group Nigeria.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Kayode Fasae, the governor noted that this training is timely as the government intensifies its efforts in economic empowerment, poverty reduction, wealth creation, and development of essential infrastructure.
He emphasized, “The motorcycles and tricycles present in our towns and communities serve more than as transportation options; they are vital resources. For numerous families, these vehicles symbolize their source of income, access, and connectivity. Maintaining and ensuring their operational efficiency is essential.”
The governor further indicated that the program, through which the participants gained enhanced skills and specialized tools, “Will facilitate job creation for our youth and promote economic progress.”
He confirmed that, “As a government, we will continue collaborating with NADDC and its partners to perpetuate this initiative, allowing more young people to acquire these necessary technical skills and, in turn, fostering economic development in our state. This is especially important given the significant advantages of the program.”
NADDC Director General, Joseph Osanipin, encouraged technicians to continually enhance their skills to stay relevant and improve their economic circumstances, noting that a skill-gap analysis by NADDC “disclosed that numerous mechanics lacked the knowledge or tools required for effectively servicing contemporary vehicles.”
Osanipin stated, “This initiative, led by the NADDC, seeks to persistently close the skills gap and improve the technical knowledge of auto technicians, consequently generating job prospects for youth in Nigeria’s automotive sector while ensuring job security and wealth for auto technicians.”
He explained that the Council has initiated various training programs aimed at addressing the issues of insufficient expertise and tools, to equip auto-technicians with current skills needed for vehicle repairs and maintenance, along with providing the participants with equipment.
Osanipin mentioned, “The Council, alongside relevant stakeholders, has trained over 15,000 technicians through the Simba Group Nigeria's Repair and Maintenance of Tricycle and Motorcycles Mechatronics Programs.
“We hold the belief that this industry has the capacity to significantly enhance our nation’s economic development, and we are diligently striving to foster an environment that supports its growth.
“By means of initiatives such as this specialized training program, we are imparting essential skills and knowledge to our youth, equipping them with the competence needed to compete in the global automotive market. We are also
