Niger police raid APC Situation Room
On Sunday, the Niger State Police Command raided the Situation Room of All Progressive Congress governorship candidate Umar Bago in Minna.
According to Abdulberqy Ebbo, the Bago campaign organization's Director of Digital and Strategic Communications, who spoke to our correspondent after seeing a post on Facebook, the police stormed the building and ransacked the situation room, claiming they were acting on a tip from some people.
He stated that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the search had been reliably informed that officials from the Independent Electoral Commission were in the building with sensitive materials for thumb printing ahead of the APC's Saturday elections.
"I received word that the Situation Room was being searched by police. I rushed there and asked the DPO what was going on, and he said they had been informed that INEC staff were thumbprinting ahead of Saturday's governorship elections.
"When they finished searching, they discovered that there was nothing going on in the building; at that time, the commissioner of police had also arrived at the premises, so the boys who had the information were arrested for giving false information to the police," he explained.
He stated that as he approached the building, he noticed many PDP members standing nearby and realized the report allegedly came from them. He also stated that the CP stated that a Situation Room would not be out of place.
Speaking with the PPRO, Abiodun Wasiu, he confirmed the arrest of two people for false information and attempting to disrupt the state's peace.
"On Sunday, around 3pm, information was received that some persons were found in a building at Bosso Estate thumbprinting ballot papers towards the forthcoming governorship elections in the state.
"Unfortunately, upon entering the building, preliminary investigation revealed that the information was false."
He revealed that the informant, identified as Ndagi, and one other person were immediately arrested for providing false information and attempting to disrupt the peace at the scene.
Wasiu added that the suspects had been handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
