Newborn Baby Abandoned in Plastic Bag Rescued in Lagos
A newborn baby boy, just a day old, was discovered abandoned in a polythene bag along Alhaji Masha Road in Surulere, Lagos State.
A social worker, who remains unidentified, and is reportedly associated with a Surulere hospital, heard the cries of a baby coming from the polythene bag while on her way to another location. She immediately investigated and found the newborn inside.
Reacting swiftly, the social worker rushed the baby to Randle General Hospital for urgent medical attention. Fortunately, the baby responded well to treatment.
Upon learning of the incident, the Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene to investigate further.
The report of the day-old baby abandoned in a polythene bag was filed at the Surulere Division on April 15, 2024, at approximately 1:40 pm by the social worker.
"The rescued baby is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition. The Divisional Police Officer, along with a team from the family support unit, visited the scene of the incident. The investigation is ongoing."
In December 2023, a day-old baby was discovered inside a carton left at a location in Zone 'B' Area of Dagbolu, Osun State.
In response, the state government appealed to residents to provide any information that could help identify the baby's parents.
