National grid shutdown treasonable – SGF
George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, denounced the national grid shutdown on Thursday, which occurred amid the suspended industrial action by organized labour. He called the conduct a treasonable criminal, claiming that nowhere in the world had organized labor shut down a country's national grid.
On Monday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria's workers union shut down the national grid in solidarity with the organized labor strike.
Organized labour went on strike to force the government to agree on a new minimum wage for workers.
Addressing the National Executive Council of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Abuja, the SGF declared that President Bola Tinubu was working feverishly to restore the country, claiming that "they (labour) want to destroy it".
He stated, "Nowhere in the world has labor ever interfered with the national grid. This is treason! You do not commit economic sabotage, which is a treasonable criminal.

We're trying to reconstruct the economy. The President is picking up, and they intend to destroy it. What use is it to all of us? That's not the way."
Akume further stated that the country's foreign reserves were nil when the President assumed office, and that the current administration had implemented extensive changes.
He stated, "We took over in really rough weather. Foreign reserves were nothing, but the President implemented major reforms. One of these looked to be difficult for people to understand: the reduction of fuel subsidies. People should stop shouting; they deserve to know the real truth."
