NCC denies approving new telecom tariff hike
Despite recent internet rumours, the Nigerian Communications Commission has confirmed that it has not approved any new telecom rate plans or hikes. This clarification comes after misinformation circulated that the Commission had introduced new tariff plans and pricing rules for the telecom industry, which were purportedly outlined in a document titled "Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector" and attributed to Executive Vice Chairman/CEO Dr. Aminu Maida.
Maida responded, saying, "Like the others, this is FAKE NEWS!" The Commission has not approved any Telecom Tariff proposals or hikes, as this report says."
According to the commission, its correct approach is to guarantee that present tariff systems are streamlined to provide consumers with greater transparency and fairness while avoiding the introduction of new tariffs or rises.
The NCC has indicated that no such tariff proposals or pricing modifications have been approved, and it has flagged the aforementioned post on its X page as fake news.
According to the bogus article, the Commission has approved new tariff plans and pricing standards for the telecom industry. These were supposedly stated in a document titled "Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector," signed by Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO.
