NBS: Electricity consumers hit 12.12M in Q4 2023
In the fourth quarter of 2023, the number of electricity consumers surged by 410,000, reaching 12.12 million compared to 11.71 million in the preceding quarter.
This represents a 3.46% increase, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics in its Electricity Report released in Abuja. The report, which focuses on energy billed, revenue generated, and customers by DisCos during the reviewed period, highlights a significant year-on-year growth of 9.59%, with the number of electricity customers rising from 11.06 million in Q4 2022 to 12.12 million in Q4 2023.
According to the NBS, in Q4 2023, the number of metered customers was 5.61 million, down from 5.68 million in Q3 2023, marking a decrease of 1.32%. However, compared to Q4 2022's 5.13 million, there was a year-on-year increase of 9.38%.
Similarly, estimated electricity customers totaled 5.83 million in Q4 2023, reflecting a 3.34% decline from the 6.03 million recorded in Q3 2023.
The NBS noted a 1.73% year-on-year decrease in estimated customers in Q4 2023 compared to the 5.93 million recorded in Q4 2022.
Furthermore, the NBS reported that electricity distribution companies collected N294.95 billion in revenue in Q4 2023, an increase from the N260.16 billion collected in Q3 2023. Year-on-year, revenue collected rose by 26.96% over the N232.32 billion collected in Q4 2022.
Electricity supply totaled 6,432 Gwh in Q4 2023, up from 5,732 Gwh in Q3 of the same year. However, on a year-on-year basis, there was a 14.64% increase in electricity supply in Q4 2023 compared to the 5,611 Gwh reported in Q4 2022.
