Makinde presents staff of office to new Oyo monarch
Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi, the newly crowned Elempe of Tapa, was bestowed with staff and instruments of office by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Monday.The event was held at Elempale Community High School in the town.
Makinde, represented by his deputy, Bayo Lawal, stressed Elempe's role in encouraging community harmony, peace, and development.
He praised the selection process that led to Oba Oyekanmi's elevation to the throne as a demonstration of the community's dedication to tradition, transparency, and the rule of law.
The governor recommended the next king to work with the administration to address important issues including security and economic development.
Makinde stated, "I charge you, Oba Oyekanmi, to accept the obligations that come with this lofty position.
"I implore you to work closely with the government to address the pressing needs of this community, including education, healthcare, security, and economic development."
He also emphasized the monarch's responsibility to address the community's problems with kidnapping, banditry, and land grabbing, and he requested the Elempe's assistance and help in doing so.
"As you begin your reign, please remember that leadership is a sacred trust that demands wisdom, compassion, and integrity. "Your reign should be marked by grace, humility, and a strong commitment to the well-being of all," he said.
The governor complimented the community for its support throughout the selection process and emphasized the importance of upholding the Elempe lineage's traditional values and beliefs.
"The selection process that led to Oba Oyekanmi's ascension to the throne demonstrated our dedication to tradition, transparency, and the rule of law." "This is a wonderful day for Tapa and all those who believe in the enduring power of our customs and traditions," he said.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Oyekanmi thanked God and Makinde for the generosity.
"The events of today are unparalleled in our community. What we are witnessing here today demonstrates your dedication to the integrity and preservation of our traditions and ethos, on the one hand, and your unwavering support for those entrusted with safeguarding our customs and culture.
"Tapa Land will experience tremendous development, peace, and unparalleled growth under my leadership, in the name of God, the very King who governs men's affairs with truth and impartiality." "This instrument of office will accentuate our great land's place in the community," he assured.
Earlier, Ademola Ojo, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the occasion was a watershed moment in Tapa history, ushering in a new era of authority and leadership under our great Oba's rule.
