Lawan sympathises with victims of Maiduguri market inferno

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed his condolences to the victims of the Sunday morning fire that destroyed the popular Monday Market in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Early this morning, a fire engulfed the popular Monday Market in the heart of Maiduguri, Borno State, sending hundreds of shop owners scrambling to salvage whatever goods they could get their hands on from their burning stores, even as fire crews struggled to keep the blaze under control.

Lawan, on the other hand, expressed sympathy for shop and property owners who must have suffered unquantifiable losses as a result of the fire.

He also expressed condolences to the State Government and the entire people of Borno over the unfortunate incident, and expressed hope that the appropriate authorities would investigate the incident and prevent it from happening again.

"I commiserate with all the victims, especially the traders and shop owners who have been directly impacted by the early morning fire incident at the Maiduguri Monday market," Lawan said.

"My sympathy also goes to the government and the entire people of Borno over the incident. We thank Almighty Allah that no one was killed or injured in the incident.

"I have no doubt that the appropriate authorities will thoroughly investigate the cause of the fire outbreak in order to prevent a recurrence," Lawan added.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd. ), and the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, have all expressed condolences to the Borno State Government over the fire.
