Kenyan Police Arrest Binance Executive Who Fled Nigeria

The Kenya Police Service has arrested Nadeem Anjarwalla, a Binance executive who had fled from Nigeria, as the International Criminal Police Organisation prepares to extradite him to Nigeria within the week.

Government sources with knowledge of the situation, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed this development on Sunday night.

One source stated, "Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla has been apprehended by the Kenya Police Service, and INTERPOL will extradite him to Nigeria this week."

Another source remarked, "As we had previously indicated, Anjarwalla has been arrested in Kenya, and he will be extradited to Nigeria this week."

The Federal Government had tracked Nadeem Anjarwalla to Kenya after he escaped from lawful custody in Nigeria.

In response, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the International Criminal Police Organisation, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service have intensified discussions to expedite Anjarwalla’s extradition.

Anjarwalla, whose whereabouts were discovered, went into hiding soon after arriving in Kenya.

“We have located him. We know he's in Kenya, and we're coordinating with the authorities to bring him back to Nigeria.

"Everyone is fully engaged. The government and all security agencies are working closely with the Kenyan authorities and INTERPOL to ensure he is returned to Nigeria to face the charges against him," the source stated in the report.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, in the March edition of the bulletin titled “EFCC Alert,” confirmed that the commission was collaborating with the International Criminal Police Organisation, the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya to extradite Anjarwalla.

Olukoyede stated, “The commission's takeover of the prosecution of Binance executives sends a clear signal about the EFCC's commitment to curbing disruptions in the nation's forex market.

"Charges of tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35,400,000 form the basis of the Commission’s five-count indictment against Binance Holdings Limited, Tigran Gambaryan, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, the company’s executives.

"While Gambaryan is currently in the Commission’s custody, the process to extradite the fugitive Anjarwalla is in full gear. The EFCC has teamed up with the International Criminal Police Organisation, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the governments of the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, and Kenya to apprehend Anjarwalla. The plan is to bring him to trial, alongside the company and Gambaryan, as the process moves toward his arraignment in absentia.”
