Kano approves N40.8bn contracts for 17 township roads
The Kano State Government has granted contracts exceeding N40.8 billion for the construction and renovation of 17 urban roads throughout the metropolitan area.The initiatives, which span across Gwale, Nasarawa, Kumbotso, Fagge, Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, and Ungogo Local Government Areas, were revealed by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, during a visit to completed and ongoing projects with the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya, on Tuesday.
Waiya stated that the contracts feature the Tudun-Yola–Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, priced at N1.896 billion; the Jafar–Madobi Road and its underpass, awarded for N1.323 billion; in addition to the refurbishing of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road and Muhammad Buhari Road, which cost N2.014 billion and N4.108 billion, respectively.
Additional key projects include the Rijiyar Lemo Road at N494.4 million, erosion control measures for the Kwanar Durba–Fammar–Kunau Kure Road valued at N205.98 million, as well as the rehabilitation of Airport Road, which has a contract value of N5.956 billion.
Waiya mentioned that the state is also channeling funds into essential rural road initiatives, allocating N13.3 billion for the Rogo–Bari–Falgore–Mahangi roads in Rogo LGA and N6.9 billion for the Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Salkwayan–Dutse roads in the Albasu LGA.
He pointed out that these road projects were strategically prioritized due to their economic and societal significance. “The purpose of these roads is to enhance connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve the overall living standards for residents,” Waiya remarked.
The commissioner further explained that once the roads are completed, they would facilitate the movement of individuals and goods, enhance driving conditions, promote commerce, and improve the transport of agricultural products to markets, ultimately stimulating local economic activities.
This substantial investment in infrastructure highlights the state government’s dedication to upgrading road systems both within the metropolitan area and in rural regions.
