Japa: US Embassy in Nigeria moves to new visa service provider
The US Embassy in Nigeria has stated that the operations of its Abuja and Lagos consulates would be managed by a new visa services provider beginning August 26, 2024.The decision was announced on the American Embassy's official website and verified social media channels.
According to a statement obtained by AMBusiness, Nigerian applicants who had already scheduled an appointment date would no longer have access to the US travel website beginning August 16, but adequate provisions are being made for existing and prospective applicants as it transitions to a new service provider.
Addressing Nigerian applicants with interviews set on or before August 16, 2024, the embassy stated, "No further action is required." You can continue to visit your account at ustraveldocs.com to examine your appointment information and contact customer care as needed."
Applicants who have interviews scheduled between August 16 and August 26, 2024, are also not required to take any additional actions, but "you will no longer have access to your ustraveldocs.com account after August 16, 2024," which means they "will not be able to cancel or reschedule your appointment from August 16, 2024, and will have no access to customer service."
Applicants should print their appointment confirmation letters by August 16, 2024. Attend your visa interview if feasible; if you do not show for your planned interview, please check here on or after August 26, 2024, for information on rescheduling your appointment."
The statement stated, "If your interview is set for August 26, 2024 or later, no more action is required, but you will lose access to your ustraveldocs.com account after August 16, 2024. This implies that you will be unable to cancel or reschedule your appointment beginning August 16, 2024, and will have no access to customer service. Beginning August 26, 2024, check here for a link to the new visa services website as well as revised instructions for registering a new user account. You'll need to establish a new account to see your account details, make changes, submit requests, or contact customer service. Print your appointment confirmation letter before August 16, 2024, in case you have technical difficulties creating your new account."
For candidates who have paid the visa application fee but have yet to schedule an interview, the embassy strongly advises "you to schedule a visa appointment as soon as possible, and read the information provided above based on your interview date."
