Innoson unveils first locally-made electric vehicle

Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company is proud to announce the launch of its first locally produced electric vehicle.

Cornel Osigwe, IVM's Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, announced the milestone on Facebook, emphasising the significance of the achievement for the Nigerian automotive industry.

According to Isigwe, the electric vehicle was manufactured at IVM's cutting-edge production facility in Nnewi, Anambra State, representing a significant step forward in the country's automotive sector.

He stated, "I just test drove the first Innoson electric vehicle produced in Nnewi. "We are just getting started."

Osigwe stated that this is IVM's first foray into electric vehicle production, but the pricing, number of units produced, and commercial release date were not disclosed.

He did, however, claim that the initial batch of IVM electric cars had sold out completely.

Since posting the video, Osigwe has received hundreds of calls and upfront payments from clients interested in driving the Innoson Electric Vehicle. My inbox was flooded with enquiries about the prices.

"The first set which are few in numbers are now currently sold out."

Electric vehicles play an important role in reducing carbon emissions from road transport, which account for more than 15% of global energy-related emissions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The electric vehicle market has grown significantly in recent years, owing to advancements in range, model variety, and performance.

As of 2023, electric passenger cars account for approximately 18% of new car sales, reflecting their growing popularity and the global shift towards sustainable transportation solutions.
