Individual Seeking Fun Loses Life at Lagos Beach
Francis, a 29-year-old individual known for seeking fun, tragically drowned while swimming at the Pop Beach Club in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 12 pm during a birthday hangout the victim was hosting with friends. It was reported that late Francis and three companions left the ongoing celebration, heading to the sea for a swim.
On Sunday, an eyewitness informed our correspondent that lifeguards near the sea raised an alarm upon observing the four individuals struggling against the tide.
According to the eyewitness, "The person celebrating the birthday arrived with 11 friends, including the victim, at approximately 12 pm. They were enjoying themselves when around four of them decided to go for a swim at the beach. After about 30 minutes in the water, we lost sight of them. When they reappeared, they were already in distress. At that point, we alerted the lifeguards, who entered the sea to assist. Unfortunately, they could only rescue three of them."
Despite the lifeguards' efforts, they were unable to rescue the victim who had become too weak to swim.
Unable to locate the missing individual after an initial search, the management reported the incident to the police. Subsequently, when a police team arrived, the management had already enlisted the services of local divers to conduct another round of search for the person in question. Despite their efforts, the search extended until the evening, but unfortunately, he was not located," the eyewitness further explained.
The body of the deceased was discovered on Saturday, washed ashore. A police source within the community mentioned, "His remains were found on the sea shore on Saturday morning, and as soon as people spotted it, they notified the management."
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, affirmed the incident, stating, "It indeed occurred. The body was retrieved two days after the incident, and it has been placed in the morgue."
