House of Representatives Initiates Investigation into Binance Executive's Escape, Denies Bribery All
The House of Representatives has initiated an investigation into the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, Head of Binance Africa, from the custody of the National Security Adviser.
The decision came after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Dennis Okafor during Wednesday's plenary session.
It is worth noting that Mr. Anjarwalla, along with Tigran Gambaryan, had been detained in Abuja. However, Anjarwalla managed to escape from custody and subsequently fled the country.
In the motion, Okafor mentioned that Anjarwalla's escape from custody was an embarrassment to Nigeria.
He requested the House to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape.
Additionally, the House refuted allegations of soliciting bribes from certain individuals.
Kama Nkem Kanma raised a point of order on privilege, stating that the House should not be subjected to embarrassment.
Although Kanma did not specifically mention Binance, it is worth noting that Binance CEO, Richard Teng, recently accused certain members of the House of seeking bribes from them.
In a blog post on X, Teng accused the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes of demanding money during an investigation.
Kanma denied that the House had made any such demands from Binance and called for a strong response.
In his ruling on the point of order, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas instructed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria, to issue a public statement to refute the claim through the media.
