FG, Brazil to sign over 30 MoUs as strategic dialogue begins

Nigeria is anticipated to finalize more than 30 Memoranda of Understanding with Brazil as the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism commences in Abuja.

This information was revealed on Tuesday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), who announced the arrival of Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, for a three-day official visit focused on enhancing bilateral relations.

As per the announcement, the strategic discussions are expected to culminate in the signing of over 30 MoUs across vital areas including defense and security collaboration, agricultural technology exchange, energy partnerships and transition efforts, cultural and educational program exchanges, in addition to trade facilitation and industrial growth.

During the welcoming event for the Brazilian Vice President at the airport, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, referred to the visit as “a crucial moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

“This dialogue mechanism shows our dedication to utilizing South-South partnerships that yield real benefits for our citizens.”

“Brazil’s knowledge in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s priorities for transformation.”

The Brazilian delegation was greeted by prominent Nigerian officials, including Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.

The Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, designed to enhance long-term cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil, is a key aspect of the Tinubu administration's effort to build significant international partnerships that promote national development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is scheduled to host Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin during his three-day visit, which will entail a series of joint activities. These will kick off with the opening ceremony of the Strategic Dialogue on Tuesday morning at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to the Office of the Vice President, the SDM provides a organized platform for both nations to strengthen collaboration on essential strategic issues.

A joint press conference featuring the Foreign Ministers of Nigeria and Brazil is also planned for Tuesday afternoon at the State House.
