Gunmen kill pastor, wife, three others in fresh Plateau attack
Dauda Dalyop, a pastor, was reportedly slain by gunmen in Plateau State. According to reports, the cleric from the Assemblies of God Church was killed on Monday, along with his wife and three others, following an attack in the state's Kwall village, Bassa Local Government Area. Sam Jugo, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the development in a message sent to his relatives on Wednesday. The statement, acquired by our correspondent in Jos, the state capital on Wednesday, stated, "Dear kinsmen, we woke up this morning to another terrible story. In the middle of the night on June 2, 2024, criminal invaders attacked and killed five of our neighbors in cold blood at Ari Songo (Songo's House).Pastor Dauda Dalyop, 63 years old (Assemblies of God Church, Kwall); Mrs Chummy Dauda, 57 years old; Mr Chwe Ajuhs, 26 years old; Mr. Joshua Kusa, 45 years old; and Mrs Rikwe Doro, 43 years old, were all slaughtered by criminal elements who arrived in large numbers and wielded heavy weapons. "Two people were seriously hurt and are currently being treated at home. Troops from Operation Safe Haven were immediately mobilised to prevent additional slaughter. "There is an unsettling stillness in the Kwall district as of press time. This tragic incident occurred barely two days after some disgruntled elements ambushed some Rigwe youngsters on a motorcycle returning from the Gero mining site, killing Mr Irmiya Musa Timbi and seriously injuring another.
We utilize this platform to further urge for calm so that security officials can do their investigations. We should increase our awareness, avoid nighttime movements to faraway locations, resist the impulse to retaliate or take the law into our own hands, and give security agencies the benefit of the doubt.
As devastated as we are by this condemnable incident, we cannot afford to exacerbate the problem by seeking self-help at this time. We urge security agencies to take action by apprehending the perpetrators so that the impacted can see justice served, since this is the only way to regain our people's trust. In another statement issued to his kinsmen on Wednesday following the victims' burial, Jugo said, "This is to update you on the condition of circumstances at Kimakpa, Kwall, and what has transpired so far. The police team and the LG chairman went over to assess the police outstation in Miango for possible modifications. They also visited the palace.
The IDA President urged the Police Commissioner to consider upgrading the police outpost to a Division and establishing an outstation in Kwall. The CP committed to investigate the matter. "Meanwhile, the commander of Operation Safe Haven has assigned Special Task Force officers to catch the perpetrators, who are already at work. Plateau State's police commissioner, O. E. Adesina, and senior police officers, including the DPO Bassa LG and the local government chairman, Mr. Fidelis Adara, as well as other local government staff, arrived to investigate the occurrence and console the residents.
The three Rigwe victims were buried following the police visit, while the pastor and his wife were taken to the O.L.A. Hospital mortuary." Remember that in April 2024, gunmen killed ten people in two separate attacks in Plateau State. The attacks in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs injured several people, and the gunmen set fire to the locals' property, including their houses. Farmasum Fuddang, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council, issued a statement confirming the executions.
