Gombe begins distribution of fertiliser to farmers

The Gombe State Government has begun distributing subsidised fertiliser across all 114 wards in the state to assist farmers during the wet season farming of 2025.

This initiative aligns with Governor Muhammadu Yahaya's directive to ensure that agricultural inputs reach authentic farmers directly at the grassroots level, down to the polling unit stage, without imposing transportation or logistical challenges.

Trucks have already started delivering these inputs to various Local Government Areas for further distribution, following the Governor's recent commencement of the 2025 wet season farming activities.

It is worth noting that Yahaya recently launched the sale and distribution of 10,000 metric tons of premium fertiliser, which amounts to 200,000 bags, at a significantly subsidised price, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to food security and rural development.

On Sunday, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas Malle, reported that the distribution process is running smoothly.

He mentioned, “Local Government Areas have begun receiving their assigned shares, which will be delivered directly to farmers at the ward level.”

Malle commended the quality of the fertiliser, stating it is among the finest produced in the country.

He highlighted that the prompt distribution “will profoundly improve farm yields and overall agricultural productivity throughout the state.”

The commissioner encouraged farmers to “utilise the inputs wisely and remain aware of environmental risks by closely adhering to weather advisories.”

He also reaffirmed the state government’s “ongoing commitment to supporting the agricultural sector, which continues to be a crucial engine of economic growth and rural empowerment in Gombe State.”
