Fire guts Ibadan Poly staff quarters

A fire devastated three of the four rooms at The Polytechnic, Ibadan in Oyo State, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The investigation indicated that, while no casualties were reported, the incident occurred in the institution's staff quarters around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.

Yemi Akinyinka, the state General Manager of Fire Service, verified this to our correspondent in Ibadan, the state capital.

Akinyinka underlined that the event was caused by electric sparks when the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company restored electricity.

"The distress call was received at precisely 02:26hrs on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Firefighters commanded by ACFS Adesina Olusoji responded quickly to the fire event. When I arrived, I discovered that the institution's staff quarters were on fire.


"The firefighters acted quickly and prevented the fire from spreading to any surrounding structures or property. It was fully extinguished in collaboration with the University of Ibadan Fire Department.
