Federal Government Affirms No Intention to Raise Taxes Amidst Speculations

The Federal Government has clarified that it has no intention of raising taxes or adding to the financial burden of the nation's tax-paying citizens. Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, the Chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, made this assertion on Tuesday while addressing rumors regarding the government's alleged plans to increase taxes.

The tax expert went on to disclose that the government's aim is to streamline the country's extensive list of over 60 official taxes into a more manageable, single-digit figure. He emphasized that the goal is to minimize the number of taxes to a single digit across all tiers of government, ensuring that individuals are not subjected to more than 10 different taxes.

"We are confident that achieving this is feasible with the collective cooperation of everyone involved. Our focus remains on closing the tax gap to generate revenue, rather than resorting to tax increases," he stated.

Oyedele revealed that the committee is slated to hold its inaugural meeting and workshop on the upcoming Tuesday, during which further information will be shared with the public.
