Fayose’s supporters fault Ekiti PDP caretaker committee
On Saturday, the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee faced criticism over the composition of the party's Ekiti State chapter's caretaker committee. The NWC, in a statement issued on Friday by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, announced the formation of a 19-member caretaker committee for the Ekiti State PDP, led by Dare Adeleke, following the expiration of the State Working Committee's tenure.
However, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, Lere Olayinka, media aide to former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, described the composition of the caretaker committee as a "exercise of the NWC of the party's discretion, which will not preclude the exercise of the discretion of others."
Olayinka stated that Fayose's supporters would use their discretion in the same way that the PDP National Working Committee had done when forming the state's caretaker committee.
He said, "The NWC has discretion, and they have used it. However, no one can preclude the other parties from exercising their discretion. We have no control over their discretion, and they will not have control over ours when the time comes.
"They have exercised their rights, and as party stakeholders, we will also exercise ours in due course. Furthermore, discretion and action exist in the short, medium, and long term. At the appropriate time, those of us in the PDP who support Fayose will freely and openly exercise our discretion.
"Therefore, we welcome their decision because it is within their power to do so. Unfortunately, when we exercise our short, medium, and long-term discretions, this current NWC will not be present in the office. But it will not come without consequences," he said.
