Family Confirms Death of Missing UniAbuja Female Student in Car Crash
Murjanatu Zubairu, a 400-level student at the University of Abuja, was reported missing last Friday but has since been found to have died in a car accident on the Lugbe-Airport Road in Abuja.
Zubairu, a student in the Faculty of Education's Department of Arts Education, had left home for school on Friday, but her family couldn't locate her until Monday.
Her uncle, Zubairu Yewuti, a former vice-chairman of Kwali Area Council in the FCT, stated, "The family of Murja contacted me in the afternoon to confirm that she died in an accident on the Lugbe-Airport Road last Friday.
"They visited the mortuary at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where they found her body."
Yewuti mentioned that the family of the deceased had made arrangements to collect the late student's body from the morgue for a proper burial.
The accident took place on Friday at 8:34 p.m., involving a Toyota Sharon bus near the Dunamis Church on the Airport Road.
The bus, which was speeding, burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a female passenger who died on the spot.
The Lugbe Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander Sunday Ajokotola, explained, "Before our rescue team reached the accident site, six out of the 10 people in the bus who had suffered burns were rescued by Air Force personnel and taken to their hospital for treatment.
"When our team arrived, we evacuated the four others, including a woman who was burnt beyond recognition, to the morgue at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada on that same Friday night."
On Monday, Yewuti recounted that he received a call from the girl's parents asking if he knew where she was.
However, attempts to reach her phone were unsuccessful.
He explained, "Her parents called me to ask if Murjanatu had visited my place, as they couldn't get through to her by phone since she left home in Piwoyi to go to school. I told them she hadn't come to my house, and I also tried calling her phone, but it was switched off."
Yewuti mentioned that the family had reported the missing student to both the university administration and security agencies, while also urging the public to contact the nearest police station if they had any information about her whereabouts.
Emeka Ndinwa, a final-year student in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, was reported missing in Delta State by his family in late December 2023.
The 24-year-old, who lived in Port Harcourt with his younger brother, left the house on November 28, 2023, and his whereabouts have been unknown since then.
Attempts by Emeka's family and friends to locate him have so far been unsuccessful.
