FUNAAB student kidnapped in Lagos murdered by abductor

Christiana Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was kidnapped between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State and reportedly murdered by her abductors.

Ibrahim Adeyemi, the president of FUNAAB's Student Union Government, confirmed this to our correspondent over the phone on Thursday.

Adeyemi stated, "The Union can confirm that she was allegedly killed by her kidnapper. We will handle the situation soon."

On August 26, a family source told PUNCH Metro that the abductors demanded a ransom of N3 million before releasing the student.

According to our source, Christiana left her home in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu to attend industrial training at the University of Lagos in the Yaba area of the state before being kidnapped.

The source went on to say that after she was unreachable for a while, the abductors contacted her family via phone, demanding a ransom of N3 million before she could be released.

According to the source, after several family appeals, the abductors agreed that N350,000 be paid to a specific account, which the family did, but the abductors refused to release her despite the payment.

Meanwhile, in a now-viral post on X, a user named @letter_to_jack revealed that intelligence operatives were able to locate the abductor using the BVN and account information used to collect the ransom from the family.

The tweet read, "Investigation by intelligence operatives began on the 26th to uncover details about the account number.

"By the 29th, intelligence operatives had confirmation from the bank that the BVN linked to the masked Betting account allegedly belonged to the account owner (name withheld for now), who also operates the Wema Bank (account number withheld for now).

"Further investigation revealed that he was able to withdraw the sum of N100,000 from the betting account before agents got the betting company to lock the account."

He added that the operatives traced the suspected abductor to a location in Ikorodu, Lagos State, where Christiana's family also lives.

"Armed with this information, operatives launched an investigation into the suspect, whom they discovered to have a mutual relationship with Christiannah Idowu, as evidenced by Instagram posts where they both commented on each other's pages.

"With all of this information in hand, the operatives began tracking down his cell phone activities and text messages." "The cell phone tracking led them to his parents' house in Ikorodu."

Attempts to obtain the victim's family's reaction were futile, as calls and messages sent to the family source were not returned as of the time of filing this report.

Furthermore, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to messages sent to his WhatsApp line despite reading them, and our correspondent's calls to his line were still unanswered.
