FG launches national broadband alliance
The Federal Government has announced the National Broadband Alliance for the Country, an initiative to accelerate the country's digital transformation while also promoting broadband development and adoption.Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
The minister emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure connectivity to spur economic growth and prosperity.
"As we work towards accelerating our collective prosperity as a nation, improving our connectivity infrastructure is a critical part of our plans as a government," according to him.
Nigeria's broadband penetration currently stands at 43.53 percent, with significant gaps in fibre network access.
The new proposed National Broadband Plan aims to close the digital divide by achieving 70% internet access by 2025.
According to the minister, the NBAN aims to foster collaboration among broadband ecosystem stakeholders such as government agencies, private sector operators, and civil society organizations.
According to Tijani, the government aims to increase demand and position Nigeria at the forefront of the global digital scene by improving broadband quality and availability.
The minister stated that the NBAN will play an important role in achieving this goal, saying, "As we improve the quality and supply of broadband, we are also creating ways to increase demand."
The government's goal of a digitally transformed Nigeria has been realized with the inauguration of the NBAN, which, according to Tijani, will benefit the country's economic growth and competitiveness.
