FG launches BisonFly project to slash air travel costs across MDAs

In a strategic move to reduce the escalating expense of air travel inside Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, the Federal Government has announced the BisonFly Project, a centralised, technology-driven travel management system.

The project, established by the Federal Ministry of Finance, seeks to introduce a more structured and cost-effective approach to official airline travel. According to the government, BisonFly will use digital booking tools and a uniform platform to achieve discounted prices, assure transparency, and increase overall travel efficiency across the federal civil service.

Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, officially launched the project team in Abuja on Thursday. During the ceremony, Edun hailed the project as an important part of the government's larger objective for budgetary restraint and public sector reform.

"Project BisonFly directly supports our commitment to prudent financial management," says Edun. "By coordinating travel and securing discounted rates, we are using the government's collective bargaining power to cut expenditure and improve service delivery — just as global institutions like the World Bank have done successfully."

The minister also emphasised that institutional reform is critical for delivering long-term savings and operational improvements in the public sector.

Mr. Raymond Omachi, Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, also spoke and applauded the minister's leadership, describing the program as a "model for fiscal responsibility" within and outside of the public sector.

According to Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, the BisonFly Project was designed by the Efficiency Unit in partnership with ICT experts and key stakeholders. A dedicated implementation team has been formed to manage the deployment, which is anticipated to be online in the coming months.

According to the statement, the BisonFly Project is consistent with the federal government's overall aims of improving efficiency, accountability, and fiscal discipline in public sector operations.

"With its innovative approach to cost savings and transparency, the project is poised to make a significant impact on government operations and set a precedent for future initiatives," Edun told reporters.
