FG begins payment of N35,000 wage arrears to civil servants
The Federal Government has started distributing the N35,000 wage arrears to federal civil servants across the country.
As stated in a release from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation on Monday, numerous government employees have already received notifications about their payments, while others are anticipated to receive theirs shortly.
In the statement, Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, reassured workers that all pending payments would be fully disbursed.
“The Federal Government has initiated the payment of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government employees,” the statement indicated.
The OAGF also clarified that, contrary to some reports circulating in online media, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, did not claim that the wage award was left out of the 2025 Budget.
The OAGF further confirmed that, against some circulating reports in certain online circles, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Babatunde Ogunjimi, did not assert that the wage award was not included in the 2025 Budget.
“The Accountant-General of the Federation did not state that the N35,000 wage award was excluded from the 2025 Budget, as reported by various online media,” the statement emphasized.
It continued by stating that Ogunjimi had not spoken to the press concerning the wage award and reiterated that the outstanding arrears would be disbursed, highlighting the government’s dedication to fulfilling its commitments to workers.
The wage award, part of a relief package negotiated in 2023 following the removal of the fuel subsidy, is being paid in monthly installments of N35,000 over five months.
According to the OAGF, “The payments will be processed in installments of N35,000 for five months.”
Previously, it was reported that the Federal Government intended to start disbursing the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants.
Last month, the OAGF confirmed that while the April 2025 salary would be disbursed separately, the initial portion of the wage award arrears would be released immediately after the salary payment for April.
