FCT police apprehend kidnappers who were previously sought by law enforcement
The FCT Police Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit has successfully captured the notorious kidnapper, Saidu Abdulkadir.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, released on Thursday, the arrest followed a midnight raid on their camps situated on the border of Nasarawa and Abuja via Kuje area council.
Adeh explained that during the operation, the kidnappers, upon detecting the presence of the police operatives, initiated gunfire, leading to a gun duel. However, the police eventually prevailed, overpowering the criminals.
Furthermore, Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar, who had been abducted in the Kuje Area Council, were successfully rescued unharmed.
The statement outlined, "In the ongoing commitment to combat criminal activities within the Territory, the FCT Police Command's Anti-kidnapping unit conducted a raid on two kidnappers' camps situated on the border of Nasarawa and Abuja via Kuje area council on 15/02/2024 at approximately 12 am. The operation led to the dislodgment of the camps and the apprehension of Saidu Abdulkadir, also known as (Dahiru Adamu), the gang leader and one of the wanted suspects from the kidnapping syndicate previously paraded by the Police Command on 14th February 2024.
Upon detecting the presence of police operatives, the bandits initiated gunfire, resulting in an intense gun duel. However, the police ultimately prevailed, overpowering the criminals. During the operation, Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar, who were abducted from Kwaita village via Pegi district of Kuje area council, were successfully rescued unharmed, and the suspect was arrested.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in orchestrating the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Mr. Sunday Yahaya Zakwai, the District head of Ketti village."

In recent times, the FCT has become a hotspot for kidnappings, with perpetrators targeting victims for ransom. A notable incident includes the abduction of Najeebah and her five sisters in Abuja on January 9, alongside their father. While the father was released, the kidnappers demanded a N60 million ransom for the release of Najeebah and her sisters before Friday, January 12."
