Experts urges Nigerian youths to embrace innovation amid unemployment

Mr. Kolawole Osinowo, Chief Executive Officer of Baobab Plus Nigeria, urged Nigerian youth to prioritise the acquisition of critical skills in order to cultivate an innovative mindset.

According to Vanguard, Osinowo revealed this in a keynote speech at a Seminar to commemorate International Youth Day organised by the Institute of Industrial Development, IID, with the theme "Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Skills: Fostering a Sustainable Future Through Youth Empowerment, Developing Tomorrow's Essential Skills."

Osinowo encouraged young people to plan for their futures by creating opportunities in areas where none currently exist.

He stated, "Despite their potential, Nigerian youth face numerous challenges, including a high unemployment rate."

"The youth unemployment rate in Nigeria is still alarmingly high, with many young people struggling to find meaningful work. They should start thinking about innovative business ideas, create their own schedules, and be lifelong learners.

Engr. Precious Adeho, founder, IID, and Managing Director of Emobella Nigeria Ltd, emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for youth involvement in governance during his welcome address earlier.

Adeho emphasised the importance of young people in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, stating that empowering Nigerian youth necessitates a comprehensive approach that addresses fundamental educational challenges.

He stated that the IID program is intended to invest in individuals to ensure the community, economy, and nation's long-term prosperity.

Meanwhile, Dr. Blessing Ayemhere, President of the Inspire Xtra Empowerment Initiative at i-Xtra, stated that the government must create jobs for the youth in order to stimulate future economic growth.
