Emefiele Receives N20m Bail Approval
Today (Tuesday), a Federal High Court in Lagos granted bail to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
The bail amount set by the court is N20 million, and he is required to produce a surety who can provide the same sum.
The bail followed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearm brought against him by the Department of State Services, DSS.
Emefiele, who had been held in DSS custody for over a month, had his bail application filed by his lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, after he pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
Daudu argued that the charges against Emefiele were bailable offenses.
Arriving at the court premises at 9.23 a.m., Emefiele was transported in a white Hilux pick-up van with covered number plates.
Assisted by an unidentified woman, he alighted from the van and proceeded to the courtroom of Justice Nicolas Oweibo, the presiding judge in the case.
