EFCC releases VeryDarkMan after five days in detention
Martins Otse, a social media activist known as VeryDarkMan, has been released from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's detention.Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential contender and activist, announced his release on Wednesday using his X handle.
"Thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone, @thatverydarkman has been released from unjust incarceration at the @officialEFCC. Sowore tweeted, "He is with his ebullient lawyer, @adeyanjudeji."
Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan's lawyer, had previously expressed frustration with the EFCC's handling of the bail process, referring to it as "social media bail" because the commission had not issued formal bail documents despite announcing that his client had been granted administrative bail.
"Bail granted for VDM and social media, but we have yet to receive any bail documents from the commission." We have made several repeated demands in this regard since yesterday, when we learned of the decision to grant bail," Adeyanju stated.
The EFCC confirmed on Tuesday, through its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, that VeryDarkMan had been granted bail but remained in custody pending the completion of his bail conditions.
According to the commission, the activist was summoned for questioning regarding several petitions alleging serious financial crimes.
He was arrested for allegedly ignoring multiple invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels.
